South Campus in the summer
South Campus is the southernmost dorm cluster on the Grinnell College campus. It houses the following dormitories: Main, Cleveland, James, Haines, Read, and Loose. This dorm cluster subdivides, respectively, into the following clusters, JaMaLand, and LooseHead. South Campus housed the female students until the Integration of North and South Campus in the 1968-9 school year.. The enclosed loggia was used to lock the dorms at night after curfew, to both prevent women from leaving and men from entering. However, rumor maintains that the steam tunnels were used by the students to secretly meet in the night.

Mears Cottage was a South Campus dorm until it was converted into faculty use (date???)

South Campus stereotypically housed the "stoners" on campus (in opposition to the "jock" residents of North Campus), but with the advent of East Campus, this dichotomy has to some extent crumbled.
