In June 2008, EcoHouse summer residents planted plugs (small plants) of an assortment of prairie species shorter than 3 feet in front of EcoHouse in small clusters. Species included prairie petunia, Ohio spiderwort, obedient plant, butterfly milkweed, cream wild indigo, white wild indigo, little bluestem, sideoats grama, prairie dropseed, and alum root. Partridge pea and black eyed susan were seeded in since they are annuals and biennials respectively. The black-eyed susans were highly dominant the first year and probably will be the second year too. Eventually perennials will start to outcompete them. Around the edges of the prairie at least 3 feet of sideoats grama lawn was seeded in. Along the fence on the north side of the lot there are rows of switchgrass, prairie dropseed, and little bluestem along with sideoats lawn.
