The SEC aims to increase the presence of locally-sourced items in the campus dining hall. Members are drafting a proposal to Dining Services. As of 2/2009 the SEC has decided to stop pursuing the policy proposal due to campus budget cuts and the addition o a local foods procuror position within Dining Services.

Goal

More local food in the dining hall.

By means of:
1. Student local foods procurer
2. Seasonal menus
3. Working with the nutritionist
4. All of the above

Proposal done by Winter Break.

Steps

1. Figure out the status quo. How much is local and what it is. Dhall should be down with telling us. Email Terry Waltersdorf and/or Jeanette Moser. Email Dean Porter?
2. Meet w/ peeps like Dick Dubya, Terry Dubya, Jeanette Moser to ask what we can do for them. I imagine they're at least open to us proposing something, so let's figure out what sort of proposal would be most useful to them. Include them in the design process. ((Who are all these people, and how do we contact them?))
3. Draft a proposal
4. Present.
5. Follow-up.

  • Specific Things to look at 10/24/08:|ISU guidline. See table under purchasing. Its a good guideline, but the proposal must be written and accepted before these kind of guidelines can be made by Grinnell Dinging, however its important to key all this in mind when writing our proposal.
  • Dining Hall is considering going trayless. See this week's S&B.
  • Dining Services will indeed be hiring a student to coordinate local foods purchasing. --Eric Nost 00:09, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
    • We should send Dick W. an email/letter asking to meet with him to discuss how they plan on going about this and what we can do to help. Becky, do you want to try to get in touch with him? I would come to the meeting. --Eric Nost 00:11, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Actual proposal

On hold until we find out more about the status quo and the plan to hire a local foods procuror.
